With assistance from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), Wallwork Cast Alloys, a supplier of temperature resistant castings has initiated an export campaign aimed at Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Company products include base grids and pan castings that enable aerospace and engineering components to be loaded and unloaded from treatment furnaces used in heat treatment and other hot process industries.

“As a thermal processor for advanced applications we produce temperature resisting castings for our own use as well as for commercial sale. Our experience as a user also informs our understanding of end-user problems and so we have been able to develop products that are lighter and stronger than other furnace furniture. Heat treatment is a capital intensive and competitive industry. Using castings with lower mass improves furnace cycle times. Greater endurance improves margin and reduces the stock of pans and base grids needed,” explained Wallwork technical director Peter Carpenter.

The Wallwork foundry operates an ISO9000 quality system. The company have proven products for most popular heat processing furnaces including Ipsen, Wild Barfield, Seco Warwick, Wellman and others. A design and pattern making service is available where customised castings are required. Furnace furniture is most commonly produced in a 37/18 nickel/chrome iron alloy that retains its strength to 1050 degrees C. The company also produce furnace furniture up to 80/20 nickel/chrome castings that can operate up to 1250 degrees C.

“Initial research indicates that there is a market in northern Europe for a niche product like ours and so we will proceed to the next phase of identifying hot process manufacturers,” Peter Carpenter concluded.
