Street’s Cranes Keep Concrete Floor Supplier on Growth Track Three advanced cranes from Chapel-en-le-Frith based Street Crane Company have been installed at Milbank Group’s newly opened factory. Business is booming for the Norfolk building systems supplier and the new facility is designed to cope with a rising demand for concrete flooring units. The crane contract has a value of £400,000. Milbank has installed two 16 tonnes safe working load factory cranes, each spanning 34 metres and a yard crane of 20 tonnes SWL spanning 30 meters. All cranes are of double girder construction for maximum strength and rigidity. Twin hoists of eight tonnes on each of the factory cranes and of 10 tonnes on the yard crane ensure safe handling of large loads and the flexibility to deal efficiently with smaller loads. Crane specifications have been carefully matched to the manufacturing process. Currently, Milbank produce around 1000 square metres of floor decking per day. This will double in the next expansion phase when throughput will rise to around 600 tonnes per day. All crane mechanisms are therefore heavy duty reflecting the large number of heavy loads and high number of crane movements expected. Advanced features on the cranes include a homing system that ensures that the cranes deliver the concrete sections to precisely the same location on the conveyor. Other technical features include an advanced load stability system for high speed load transfer without load swing. Street Crane Company use sophisticated computer programmes to match crane specification to client needs. This ensures the high levels of performance and availability that are essential in process manufacturing. Milbank operate a number of cranes from several manufacturers. The effective performance of existing Street equipment influenced the selection of cranes for the new factory.
