TRACTION SPEED MONITORING SPECIALIST STRENGTHENS R&D TEAM Two new senior appointments at traction speed monitoring specialist, Rowe Hankins, have added strength and depth to the research and development team. Steve Stone, a Chartered Engineer and member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, with over 25 years traction experience, joins as engineering project manager. Tariq Latif, with 15 years experience in the traction industry, has joined as senior engineer. Both are engineering graduates from Salford University and were formerly with Alstom Transport in Preston. "We have joined Rowe Hankins as the traction side of the business has begun to grow and expand," explained Steve. "The company has introduced a number of significant innovations including Hall-effect speed sensors, roll-back detection, speed display systems and AC/DC earth leakage detectors. These systems are winning recognition from traction builders and rail operators worldwide." Steve and Tariq worked together at Alstom on a number of key projects, many of which featured Rowe Hankins equipment. "This is a great opportunity to see the development process from the supplier perspective and bring to the process my experience in testing, validation and experience-based product improvement," commented Tariq. Rowe Hankins has recently won new business with Metrolink in Manchester for upgrade of critical components. This follows work for London Underground on train roll-back detection and projects for Network Rail Southern on power upgrade. Worldwide, Rowe Hankins has supplied product to projects as far away as Shanghai, New York, Brazil and Australia.
