NEW ADVANCED AUTO CLAMP IMPROVES JEWELLERY QUALITY FROM THE START OF THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS A new Advanced Auto Clamp (AAC) from Yasui is being introduced to UK jewellery manufactures by Finishing Techniques. The new device will drive down the cost of wax pattern production. The AAC can also be fitted to existing Yasui vacuum wax injector systems of which there are over 400 in use in the UK. With a conventional Auto Clamp, setting mould injection, clamp, forward pressure and hold time was a manual task performed for each injection. However, the lengthy procedure was difficult to do accurately in a short available time, often leading to defective wax patterns and erratic wax weight. This in turn meant more work had to be undertaken to retouch waxes and more time spent in final finishing of jewellery pieces to achieved the desired quality. AAC overcomes these problems and allows jewellery manufacturers to save costs by reducing defect ratios, increasing flexibility and improving the overall quality of jewellery pieces. Improving quality also means further finishing requirements are substantially reduced. Using the AAC, the user is able to programme the correct settings for mould injection, clamp, forward pressure and hold time and store them in any of the 100 memories available. Settings are easily recalled by keying a simple two-digit code to ensure perfect repeatability every time. In a recent demonstration of the AAC it was calculated that one manufacturer's investment would pay back in just one week. The company was struggling to achieve a consistent wax pattern weight for a ring and therefore the casting weight varied by up to five percent (approximately two grammes of metal in this case). Getting this right was vital to quality and avoiding losing money where rings were sold per item rather than weight. Using the new AAC it was easy to achieve the correct weight and repeat it every time. Finishing Techniques supply a full range of Yasui vacuum wax injection and casting equipment along with a total care package that includes operator training so jewellery manufacturers can maximise the return on their investment.
