Modular Factory Crane Hoist Lifting Capacity Boosted to 40 Tonnes

With the completion of phase one of the ZX10 hoist programme, Street Crane Company has taken the capacity of its ZX hoist series up to 40 tonnes safe working load. The ZX10 is designed using the same modular principles as the proven ZX6-8 series. This gives users options to customise hoists to their overhead crane application in a very competitive package.

“With the new launch we are moving to our goal of full market coverage with advanced hoists that are easily adaptable to most needs in the UK and around the world. Importantly, in these tough times, the modular design means the ZX10 is a cost effective option,” explained managing director Andrew Pimblett.

In every aspect the ZX10 series is a heavy duty hoist having a more substantial chassis, with a heavy duty gear box, motor and drum. There is some capability overlap with the ZX6-8 in the core 20 tonnes lifting ranges. This has enabled Street Crane to offer higher performance ZX10 hoists in this lifting range where customers may need a higher speed of lift, require greater height of lift or a higher duty rating.

Engineered using Solid Edge virtual modelling, the new hoists, like the ZX6-8 units, have been developed to use fewer components, making them easier and quicker to assemble and more competitive. Advanced vibration analysis was also undertaken to allow each individual component to be isolated and performance optimised. Long term reliability of the ZX10 hoist has been proven by intensive accelerated life tests. With full loads, lift and fall cycles were followed with speed changes and pauses so that mechanisms were severely challenged. The effect of many years operation was compressed into several weeks 24/7 operation.

The next phase of development will see the ZX10 series hoists go to 50 tonnes safe working load. Engineering work on this is well advanced and is expected to be complete by the end of 2009.

In addition to the ZX ranges Street Crane continue to offer a full range of factory cranes and hoists up to 150 tonnes lifting capacity.

Additional Technical Information

The ZX10 hoist was designed using Solid Edge, a virtual modelling software tool that allows component designs to be optimised and all component options and interactions to be fully explored before building the prototypes. The new hoists, like the ZX6-8 units launched last year, have been developed to use fewer components and more multi function components than previous designs. This makes them more competitive and easier and quicker to assemble.

Advanced vibration analysis was undertaken to allow each individual component to be isolated and performance optimised. Long term reliability of the ZX10 hoist has been proven by intensive accelerated life tests.
