Bury Rail Safety Engineers Rowe Hankins Conquer Snowdon for MacMillan Cancer Support

To raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support, a team of 21 people from Bury based rail safety engineers Rowe Hankins braved abominable weather to climb Snowdon in September. The team will present the charity with a cheque for £3000 at a celebration at The Black Bull on Ainsworth Road/Lowecroft Road on October 29 at 3PM.

Organiser of the event, Rowe Hankins managing director Amanda Jones commented, “This all started with a challenge from my personal trainer. I’m not the kind of person who gives up easily and I was gobsmacked and delighted when so many of the staff decided to join me, giving up their Sunday, to make it a fundraiser for a charity that we all support. Hardly anyone on the team had any experience of this sort of thing and it was a really heroic effort by everyone in dreadful conditions.”

“I’m not sure how we can top this in 2012, perhaps we will go for something closer to sea level and place an early order for sunshine and a light breeze,” Amanda reflected.

Rowe Hankins was established in Bury in the mid 1980’s and has grown from a team of three to over 60 people. The company supply safety related electro mechanical system to the rail industry for circuit protection speed measurement and control and wheel flange lubrication to prolong wheel and track life.
