Speed Probes and Intelligent Wheel Flange Lubrication Control at InnoTrans

Download full press kit:

IRIS certified rail systems engineers Rowe Hankins returns to InnoTrans on stand 212 (hall 2.2) with systems to promote safety, maximise train availability and ensure higher levels of reliability in rolling stock and rail infrastructure.

Based in the Rail Industries Association village, the company will have working demonstrations and test facilities featuring speed sensors. Using the Hall-effect principle, Rowe Hankins speed sensors provide precise and reliable speed and distance monitoring that is robust, tolerant of vibration, dust, grease and extremes of temperature and humidity. There are many thousands of these units providing reliable and virtually maintenance free operation worldwide.

The speed probes and sensors can be fitted as original equipment or retro fitted to existing rolling stock. Technical developments enable these devices to provide even more precise measurement and allow retro fitted probes to be installed with greater gap, without affecting performance. In addition to sensing forward movement these systems can also be configured to provide roll back protection. When roll back is detected a high power Klaxon sounds in the drivers cab to alert the driver.

New at InnoTrans is Falcon, an advanced control system for wheel flange lubrication. Featuring triple positioning sensors and track memory, the system pinpoints precisely where and how much lubrication to apply. The system is suitable for use with any proprietary wheel flange lubrication delivery system allowing operators complete choice in lubrication technology.

Intelligence from global satellite positioning, tilt detection and speed and distance measurement sensors is fed into system memory to map precisely where, how severe and how protracted are the curves in the track. Falcon then precisely specifies the dose and duration of lubrication needed, recognising the need for proportionately greater lubrication on the outer curve of the track. Multiple sensors ensure that systems even work in tunnels. Precise dosing of expensive lubricant protects the environment and avoids costly over application.

Rowe Hankins is the UK partner to several leading international rail systems companies and will also have on the stand on-train monitoring and recording equipment (OTMR’s) from HaslerRail, contactors from Secheron and circuit breakers from Eaton.

Reflecting the global nature of their business, Rowe Hankins has established partnerships in France, the USA and China. This will provide users in these areas with local technical support. Engineers will be on hand throughout the show to provide more information.
