Better Lubrication, Precise Speed Measurement and Greater Electrical Protection from Rail Safety Experts, Rowe Hankins at Railtex

A raft of innovative technologies that give greater rolling stock safety, reliability, efficiency and economy will be on the Rowe Hankins (stand 652) at Railtex.

Their intelligent Wheel Flange Lubrications System (iWFL), developed jointly with European market leaders REBS of Germany, will feature prominently. Engineered with UK requirements in mind, the system has triple positioning sensors and track memory. It pinpoints precisely where and how much lubrication to apply. This saves on lubricant and increases safety through reducing track and wheel wear. Major environmental benefits include reduced rolling energy use, lower noise and the avoidance of pollution caused by indiscriminate lubrication. Greater availability of rolling stock and track benefits all parties.

Other innovations include a new RCBO for life protection, developed with Swiss electrical protection specialist Eaton Heinemann. This is based on the familiar hydraulic magnetic circuit breaker technology to ensure precise protection, irrespective of temperature and vibration. Lethal incidents are rare, but a push button enables a trip condition to be simulated so that the RCBO can be periodically tested. Units can be reset immediately.

Rowe Hankins i-MAG and MAG-T systems ensure precise train speed and distance monitoring. Technical developments have increased the sensing devices measurement precision and allow the retro fitting of probes with a greater gap between the probe and target (typically the toothed flywheel in the gearbox), without affecting performance. Being based on Hall-effect technology, the push-pull pulse from these units is clear and unambiguous. Units are highly tolerant of the dust, grease and vibration common to all classes of rail rolling stock.

DC Switchgear, the full range of Eaton Heinemann hydraulic magnetic circuit breakers and advanced OTMR’s complete the Rowe Hankins stand.

Rowe Hankins is located on stand 652 – in the first half of the hall, close to the bar. Engineers will be on hand to provide more information.
