Successful Wheel Flange Lubrication Launch Prompts September Events for the Rail Industry

The successful launch and live trials of the Rowe Hankins intelligent Wheel Flange Lubrication System (iWFLS) has aroused strong interest in the rail industry. This has prompted the company to plan two further demonstration days in late September at the Long Marston Test Circuit.

“Over two launch days in June we had many engineers representing over 30 different organisations including Network Rail, train operating companies, leasing companies, rolling stock manufacturers and engineering consultancies. The reception for the new system is very encouraging and I am confident that we have introduced a technology that will benefit all the stakeholders in the UK rail and rapid transit industry,” enthused Rowe Hankins, managing director, Toni Hankins.

The purpose of iWFLS is to reduce friction between the wheel flange and the rail, particularly on bends. This saves energy and reduces damage to both wheels and track, while reducing associated noise. The system combines speed and distance inputs with bend sensing and GPS location information into a control system. Using this data, a small dose of lubricant is delivered to the critical area of the wheel exactly when it is needed. The lubricant is specially formulated to meet the temporary lubrication need and then disperse harmlessly into the environment.

The company is taking registrations for the September events now. They can supply briefing packs from the original launch event for engineers who want immediate access to technical information. Anyone wishing to book a place or request information can do so by contacting Elizabeth Robakowski on 0161 765 3000.
