Innovations in Wheel Flange Lubrication and Rail Protection at Railtex 2007, Stand R70, Hall N6

Rail safety systems specialist, Rowe Hankins, will feature a selection of equipment for on-train and trackside safety and protection. New for Railtex, will be their Intelligent Wheel Flange Lubrication System (WFLS). This protects rail and flanges from excess wear, promoting greater safety, offering reduced maintenance cost, improved uptime and dealing with environmental issues of wheel noise on bends.

Rowe Hankins WFLS can be fitted to all classes of rolling stock from light rapid transit vehicles to heavy freight trucks. It may be installed as original equipment or retro-fitted during an in-house service upgrade. Key elements of the system include the tank of bio-degradable lubricant, pipework, pumps, nozzles and control unit.

The WFLS control unit is pre-programmed with location data on areas of track where lubrication is required. Using the global positioning system (GPS) to pinpoint problem areas of track, the unit delivers a precise pulse of lubricant to the leading wheel set in each bogey. This is sufficient to reduce friction between the flange and track edge.

In addition, Rowe Hankins will have many other products at the show. The company is UK distributor for many leading Swiss rail engineering manufacturers including Hasler, Secheron and Eaton Heinemann. From Hasler Rail, they will be showing the latest on-train monitoring and recording units (OTMR) for recording of key system and performance data for both evidential needs and efficient pro-active maintenance.

From Eaton Heinemann, Secheron and Rowe Hankins own ranges, the company will show precision circuit breakers that optimise performance. These breakers ensure maximum uptime with protection from critical electrical anomalies.

In house, Rowe Hankins has extensive electro-mechanical engineering capability. Their UK engineered speed probes and pulse monitors have set new cost and reliability benchmarks for the rail industry. The company has extensive experience in pre-configuring systems for efficient installation. They are also pioneers in the production of trackside Earth leakage protection devices and the refurbishment of high voltage contactors to extend their working life.

Rowe Hankins has over 20 years experience in traction industry safety and has successful installations around the world. Their expert staff will be on hand throughout the Railtex show to demonstrate the various technologies, discuss their application and advise on the most suitable product to meet user needs.
