JUST IN TIME - A DAZZLING DISPLAY FROM OTEC
AT IMTS 2002

Small job shop owners and large scale manufacturers were dazzled at IMTS by the Otec patented process for deburring and polishing small intricate, machined and stamped components. On show was a full range of solutions that delivers on quality, performance and price, including equipment that is ideal for cell production and just-in-time processes. New Otec machines that substitute oil for water promise even faster deburring by eliminating the need for batching, degreasing and regreasing.

Breaking the log jam caused by batching components for deburring is key to successful just-in-time production. The new Otec CF Series equipment is compact allowing it to be located right in the manufacturing cell. Being up to 10 times faster than vibro machines and 20 times faster than conventional barrel finishing, means the CF keeps pace with CNC production and so eliminates the need for batching. As parts leave the CNC machine they can be deburred immediately in the CF. The CF is quiet too, eliminating one of the health and safety aspects of using large vibro machines.

The Otec CF Series Oil machine further optimizes small parts deburring to match the output from CNC machining by using a compound-oil mixture in place of a compound-water mixture in the finishing bowl. Where traditional finishing required small parts to be degreased, cleaned, dried and accumulated before deburring, the CF Series Oil machine eliminates these time consuming tasks. The oil and media are separated and recovered from the deburred parts, while the oil is filtered and recirculated. Removing the need for a water connection also makes locating the equipment in the cell more flexible.

Not forgetting the small job shop owner, Otec has made the revolutionary oil deburring process available on their ECO bench top range of equipment that starts at an amazing price of just $595. A compact footprint and the need for only a 115 volt 60Hz single phase power input means these devices are truly plug and play. The units achieve fantastic and repeatable results without supervision, freeing time to work on more creative and productive tasks. Processing is fast - sometimes as little as one minute.

ECO-maxi - THREE INTO ONE DOES GO AT IMTS 2002

Why buy three machines when one will do? This is the question answered by engineers at Otec who have come up with the perfect finishing solution for small job shop owners and for the low volume needs of larger manufacturers. The ECO-maxi can combine three types of finishing - wet grinding/polishing, dry grinding/polishing and magnetic polishing. This is achieved simply by having interchangeable bowls for each process.

ECO-maxi is compact and sits easily on any bench top and requires only a standard power connection. The unit is the perfect addition to cell production and just-in-time processes. As parts leave the CNC machine they can be deburred immediately. If a different finishing process is required then the operator can quickly and easily change the bowl. No mess or delay, just maximum productivity at all times.

Like the larger Otec machines on show, in wet processing the ECO-maxi allows the user to substitute oil for water to eliminate the need for batching, degreasing and regreasing. This makes deburring and polishing small intricate, machined and stamped components fast - processes that used to take many hours can often be reduced to a matter of minutes.

Besides being small and easy to locate in the manufacturing cell, the ECO-maxi is clean, quiet and safe to use. It requires no specialized knowledge or training by the operator, though Otec Precision Finish is always happy to help users determine the best process combination of time, media and compound to achieve the best possible results.

The ECO-maxi delivers maximum quality, maximum flexibility and maximum productivity in form never seen before.
