Bamtec integrates finite element design of the required structural reinforcement of concrete floor slabs with robotic manufacture. This produces a series of bespoke reinforcement carpets which are then rolled out on site. The manufacturing data is transferred directly to the automated plant where each re-bar is welded onto steel tapes in the precise position required. Each carpet is identity tagged for correct sequential location in the floor slab reinforcement. Reinforcement is precisely matched to the consulting engineer's loading calculations. This results in substantial steel savings compared to a traditional loose bar scheme. These savings are further enhanced by the availability from Hy-ten of non-standard re-bar diameters (14, 18 and 22mm) to achieve more effective and economical reinforcement. The significant reduction in the use of steel is important in meeting carbon reduction targets. Additional major savings can be made on site in both time and skilled manpower as the Bamtec system reduces both the number of site operatives and skill level needed. Off site manufacture of the reinforcement rolls in a QA controlled environment promotes higher construction standards and contributes to improved building quality. Programmes using the Bamtec system advance more rapidly with savings of one week per floor being typical. Rapid completion of the structure also brings further reductions in associated construction costs. Hy-Ten have a dedicated team of UK and Ireland based engineers who can work with consulting engineers, specialist frame contractors and main contractors on every aspect of floor slab structural design and detailing.
