Fire resisting ductwork specialist Senior Hargreaves are committed to
service quality. To meet this aim they have a rolling training programme with independent providers FIRAS
(the Fire Accreditation Scheme). With thirty-two directly employed installers and supervisors now trained
the company has more qualified installation personnel than any other fire duct contractor.
"We take our responsibilities to clients and to the professional specifiers who recommend our
systems extremely seriously and see this scheme as a vital additional safeguard. It is a measure of our
commitment to the highest standards in fire safety systems," explained Hargreaves director David Lowe.
The training scheme is fully supported by the Heating and Ventilation Contractors Association (HVCA) and
has indirect support from other professionals such as fire and building control officers. Having provided a
carefully engineered and tested fire duct system, the aim is to ensure that installers are fully aware of
its safety value and follow site procedures to ensure optimum performance.
Formal training covers the basic principles of fire, fire testing, building regulations and practical
aspects of installation. Contractors such as Hargreaves, who are accredited under the scheme, are subject
to random site visits to check conformance to best practice and that the trained installers are following
all the correct procedures.
