DOUBLE QUICK DUCTWORK
Senior Hargreaves have completed the second of two express ductwork projects at Canary Wharf for international investment bankers Credit Suisse First Boston. Two buildings comprising 270,000 square feet of high quality office space and computing suites have been fitted out in record breaking time.The first building, designated B4 has 200,000 square feet over 10 floors. This was handed over last October after a 19 week fit-out period. Senior Hargreaves is the UK's largest specialist ductwork contractor, and one of only a few companies able to undertake work of this scale and complexity. They have supplied class B, medium pressure acoustically lagged environmental ductwork and installed over 600 Trox fan assisted variable air volume (VAV) terminal units. In addition, a small quantity of fire resistant ductwork for the FM 200 fire protected computing suite has been installed.
The building environment is under the control of a Siemens Landis Staefa building management system. This controls the plant to deliver appropriately conditioned air via the Senior Hargreaves ductwork. At each VAV terminal, conditioned air and room air are blended to provide ideal local conditions. Each of the VAV's was individually tested and commissioned by Trox before fitting. Fast installation by Senior Hargreaves was aided by the modular wiring interface. This will also make it easy to swap out units for upgrading or servicing.
To meet the strict schedules for opening Senior Hargreaves worked in close collaboration with other fit-out trades. Ductwork sections, fittings and accessories were delivered to site on a just-in-time basis. Sections were prefabricated, wherever possible, to speed and simplify on-site handling and installation.
The success of the B4 project led directly to Credit Suisse First Boston awarding the smaller, technically similar, 70.000 square foot West Ferry Circus project to the same elite team. Senior Hargreaves worked under a direct contract for fit-out contractors Bovis Lend Lease. Architects for the project were Gensler and Associates while engineering systems were designed by Hilson Moran Partnership. Arup Project Management were planners and contract administrators.
