FRESH AIR CONTRACT FOR FORDLeading heating and ventilation fabricator Senior Hargreaves have completed a contract with automotive paint finishing specialists Haden Drysys International at Ford in Southampton, where the Transit is made. The order for the supply of make-up air units was part of a full service contract to design, construct, equip and commission a new paint shop. The Haden Drysys paint shop will boost output, improve quality and reduce environmental impact. The new paint lines use Haden's Hydrospin MkIII Q spray booths and Air Radiant ovens for the efficient application of advanced coatings. High rates of localised extraction are required to drive off moisture from the largely water based finishes. Therefore, Senior Hargreaves equipment, made to Haden's specification, supply replacement air that is suitably tempered and humidified. Senior Hargreaves have supplied 12 units that typically comprise fresh air intake, shut off dampers, gas burner, filter sections, humidifier, after filters and external fan units. At 6.6 by 4.1 by 10 metres, the largest unit is almost half the size of a semi-detached house. Delivery of units to site began in mid August 1998 and continued until November. Installation was completed by early January 1999 with production scheduled in the new facility from August 1999. The contract follows on from successful co-operation between Haden Drysys and Senior Hargreaves on the £110 million Land Rover paint shop at Solihull for which the company supplied high capacity make-up air units.
