Why buy three finishing machines when one will do? This is the
philosophy behind the revolutionary new ECO-maxi introduced by Finishing Techniques at Southern
Manufacturing. ECO-maxi combines three types of finishing - wet grinding/polishing, dry grinding/polishing
and magnetic polishing using one base. This is achieved simply by having interchangeable bowls for each
process.
Increasing profitability by deburring/polishng by machine is now a reality for the smaller manufacturer
while the low volume needs of larger manufacturers are also satisfied by the ECO-maxi's clever design. The
unit is far faster than drum grinders or vibration machines, reducing processing times by up to 90 per cent
making it an ideal partner to fast CNC based manufacturing. Even better, the ECO-maxi can use the same
oil/water emulsion as a CNC machine so no extra drainage system or water supply is required.
The compact unit sits on any bench top and needs only a standard power connection. If a different
finishing process is required then the operator quickly and easily changes the bowl. No mess or delay, just
maximum productivity at all times.
Finishing Techniques managing director, Jonathan Dean, commented, "ECO-maxi delivers maximum
quality, maximum flexibility and maximum productivity in a form never seen before in the UK."
Besides the revolutionary ECO-maxi, the company exhibited Otec DF drag finishing equipment and the
industry leading CF range of deburring and polishing machines. All share the outstanding capabilities of
the ECO-maxi but offer configurations and capacities to meet the needs of any manufacturer - large or
small.
All Otec equipment is available to Purchase, lease or rent. For free advice, the company can be

LASER ENGRAVING FOR PERFECT
ID, QA AND DATA MATRIX CODES
Firescan, an all in one laser engraving system, was shown at the
Southern Manufacturing show by Finishing Techniques. The easy to use compact laser engraver sits on your
desktop and is ideal for perfect identification, quality control and data matrix codes. Whether marking
products and components with reference/part numbers, logos, safety information or as a design feature,
Firescan reproduces them all flawlessly at resolutions up to 1000dpi.
The ultra-precise 0.2mm laser beam is controlled from a standard PC running simple software that is
supplied with the unit. Perfect engraving and markings can be made on single items or batch production.
Standard metals, precious metals and even plastics are easy to etch using Firescan. Deep engraving and
intricate designs can be performed on flat or curved surfaces without the need for extensive training.
Furthermore, all markings are permanent, chemical proof and abrasion proof.
Unlike many other systems, Firescan is completely air cooled so there is no need for a water connection.
This contributes to low running costs and makes the unit more compact and convenient to locate wherever
there is a standard power point. It is safe to use on a desktop or place directly in the manufacturing
cell.
Firescan is one of a range of quality laser engraving and welding machines made by Siro Lasertech of
Germany and available in the UK solely through Finishing Techniques to purchase, lease or rent. Product
details are available from the company on 01706 825819.

WASTEWIZARD REDUCES COSTS BY
RECYCLING
INDUSTRIAL FLUIDS & WASTE WATER
Southern Manufacturing 2003 saw Finishing Techniques introduce a
simple and robust solution to recycling industrial fluids and waste water while concentrating pollutants
for safe disposal. The WasteWizard's patented clog-free polymer membrane filters out and collects soils
that reduce the useful life of most industrial fluids. The unit is ideal for many types of manufacturing
waste like mass finishing compounds, aqueous cleaner recycling, mop water recycling and synthetic coolant
recycling.
Significant savings in chemical costs are assured as WasteWizard re-purifies for reuse up to 85 per cent
of cleaners and coolants. The unit concentrates waste by up to 99 per cent so less bulk saves more in the
cost of collection. Cleaned water is made safe for disposal down the drain or can re-enter the
manufacturing process to save even more on water charges. This all means the WasteWizard achieves a quick
payback.
WasteWizard fits a standard 200 litre drum or an optional 380 litre tank and runs 24/7. Filters can be
stacked to give more processing capacity. A single stack filters 16 litres of fluid per hour rising to 80
litres for the five stack unit. A built-in cleaning cycle ensures the clog-free membranes last up to 12 to
18 months, depending on the application. For lower volumes, the company produces the MiniWizard which has
the same benefits but sits on a 60 litre drum.
Finishing Techniques managing director, Jonathan Dean, explained, "WasteWizard brings more than
cost benefits through waste reduction and recycling. It improves production by removing contaminants that
could harm finished product quality. Another potential saving is made by reducing rejection rates."
Purchase, lease or rental packages are available. For free advice on the correct WasteWizard
configuration the company can be contacted on 01706 825819.
