FIA 2018 is upon us. There is little more than four months remaining until the show. Whether you booked your exhibition stand well in advance or with just a few months to spare, there is no time like the present to action your marketing plans.
Having great pictures for PR and marketing is vital and this blog is about increasing the chances of improving your supply of useable pictures. It is not about camera gear or a photography tutorial. I am not a professional photographer, but as PR person I have an insatiable appetite for pictures to tell my clients' stories. Pictures are essential to achieving this successfully. Examples here are my own attempt at taking pictures.
Effective from May 2018, the GDPR is a new framework for data protection that replaces current UK and EU regulations. It has two main purposes: to give people control over their personal data and to ensure consistency in the way personal data is held and processed throughout the EU. Forget the fact that we are leaving, the new rules will be written into UK law.
The importance of video is growing rapidly. Smart phones, tablets, SmartTVs, live web streaming, in-car/in-flight entertainment, wearables, virtual reality, gaming – the list goes on, all driving an insatiable demand for content. A time consuming aspect of providing PR services to engineering, construction and technology companies, is the sourcing of high quality visuals – graphics, photographs, video and so on.
The start of July has been exceedingly busy relocating Ainsworth Maguire from Rawtenstall to Bury, where Kevin Ainsworth originally founded the business in 1985 under the name Marketing Workshop. Ainsworth Maguire was formed in 1987 when I joined Kevin.
After more than 30 years helping companies in construction, engineering and manufacturing to communicate their innovations to customers and the wider business world, Kevin is taking a well-earned retirement. He will retain a consulting role and be available for a transition period to assist as needed.
No business operates in a vacuum. Whatever you do, you have to share your story with others to build understanding, dialogue and the trust that sustains business relationships. This is especially true today, when there is so much chatter and noise, your message needs cut through the clamour.
If ‘content is king’ why are there so many content-poor web sites out there? These sites often look attractive, they have the right structure so they are easy to understand and navigate, good pictures, good use of colour, easy responsive resizing and a hint that there could be something interesting to read. They even include tabs that say news, blog, case studies and video. However, when you click these tabs you are usually presented with something from three years ago at best or, at worst, simply left with a blank.
Most of us get our news from established and, in general, trusted media. Though these outlets are not perfect they are usually staffed by professionals who want to get as close to the truth as they can by researching and presenting data, discovering facts, seeking opinion from qualified and experienced experts and relaying this to us in an informative way.
In the contest of ideas, you need white papers in your armoury. Historically, white papers were used by government to pilot new ideas and encourage public debate and contributions before legislation. In business they are used to demonstrate depth of knowledge, win respect and often to support a new technical approach over an established alternative.
